Clean Intakes was launched, like many small businesses, with a very simple goal. That goal was to provide an affordable and high quality intake product to small law firms and solo practitioners. We knew from the beginning that this was not a new idea. There are many companies out there that claim to do legal intakes and are happy to provide to you with quickly done scattershot intakes at by-the-minute prices. Many of us have worked with these companies during our careers and let me tell you, the low standards of these so-called ‘intake specialists’ are not good enough in today’s world. You and your clients both have the expectation of quality, and quality takes time.

A solid intake is the foundation of most successful client matters. This ‘Home’ document gets the pedigree information and, most importantly, the story the client originally provides to you. This document is crucial not only at the beginning to help save the attorney time when meeting with clients and closing on deals, but also later on in areas that may also save you money.
In truth, it is our hope that our documentation assists you throughout the life of the client matter serving as a living document (in either paper form, digital form, or through your case management system) that will be augmented with additional information over its lifespan.
You might ask, “How can an intake save me money after I have already signed on my client?”
I enjoy sharing this experience because it was beneficial on multiple levels. A small firm obtained a lead on a matter, a complex matter that was an area of focus for them. A Clean Intake was performed, and the firm was able to close the deal with their client for representation. Six months later, the case was nearing conclusion and the firm obtained outside counsel for purposes of drafting a pre-plea memorandum. When the firm provided all necessary documents to the outside counsel they also included a copy of the Clean Intake. When the firm received the billing from the outside counsel they shared that they realized a savings of almost 50% from billings recently received on similar matters!
This savings was due to the quality of the intake. Having a solid Home document allowed the outside counsel to review the story as told by the client (not just through court documents), which reduced the amount of time the attorney needed to spend interviewing the client, which in turn allowed the client to have a beautifully sculpted document created in their defense, and at the end of the day ended up as additional savings for our client. In a scenario where everyone wins and we get to be a small part of it, that is a great day for us!
